Preserving the Past, Building the Future

Infinity Constructions – Build. Above. Beyond.
In Australia, most commercial buildings have a lifespan of 50-60 years, and much of the stock is nearing the end of this cycle.
Adaptive reuse is one of the construction options we offer our clients to transform their existing buildings for new purposes, offering a sustainable alternative to demolition and new construction. Infinity Constructions has seen growing opportunities in repurposing commercial office towers, historic retail structures and old warehouse structures to meet modern workforce commercial office demands.
As a leading Sydney and Melbourne construction company, Infinity Constructions has collaborated with architects, consultants, councils, and regulatory bodies on multiple Adaptive reuse projects to breathe new life into these buildings, creating innovative, contemporary commercial spaces that meet the needs of 21st-century businesses.

The Revy – A Landmark in Adaptive Reuse and Heritage Construction
Project Overview:
The Revy (Royal Edward Victualling Yard) is a multi-award-winning luxury residential development for Aqualand, featuring 44 high-end apartments and a complex three-level basement. Located on historically reclaimed land at Sydney’s foreshore, this adaptive reuse project demanded innovative engineering solutions to preserve heritage elements while delivering a modern, architecturally striking structure.
Infinity Constructions’ expertise in heritage restoration, structural engineering, and adaptive reuse was pivotal in overcoming the project’s unique challenges—particularly the complex basement construction and the preservation of the building’s original timber pile foundations.
Overcoming Heritage and Structural Challenges:
Preserving Historic Timber Piles – The Revy’s 8-storey structure rests on clusters of original timber piles, a relic of Sydney’s maritime history. Infinity Constructions developed an innovative shoring system to maintain the building’s structural integrity while safeguarding these heritage foundations. This solution allowed for safe excavation and construction without disturbing the historical underpinnings.
Complex Basement Construction – Situated on water-charged, rubble-filled ground, the basement posed significant technical challenges. After initial exploratory works revealed that the tendered design was unfeasible, Infinity revised the design to improve performance while staying within the original budget. An internal bracing system was implemented to avoid the use of costly anchors on Property NSW foreshore land, maintaining both compliance and cost-efficiency.
Architecturally Distinct Lift Cores – Two external lift cores featuring curtain wall glazing serve both aesthetic and structural functions. These architectural elements were engineered to stabilize the existing building while accommodating service risers, egress stairs, and lifts, ensuring compliance with the Building Code and Home Building Act.
Award Recognition
The Revy was a finalist in the prestigious 2023 ULI Asia Pacific Awards for Excellence, standing out as one of only three Australian projects selected from 45 entries. This accolade reflects Infinity Constructions’ ability to deliver world-class adaptive reuse and heritage projects that balance preservation with modern functionality.

Pitt Street – Transforming Heritage into Modern Commercial Spaces
Project Summary:
Infinity Constructions successfully delivered a major heritage refurbishment at 181 Pitt Street, Sydney CBD, transforming a 7-level historic building from residential use into a modern commercial and retail space. Partnering with H&E Architects, the project balanced heritage preservation with contemporary functionality, breathing new life into one of Sydney’s iconic structures.
This adaptive reuse project involved internal and external alterations, careful integration of heritage elements, and modern structural enhancements while adhering to heritage conservation guidelines and Class 6 commercial compliance.
Key Highlights:
- Adaptive reuse of a 7-level heritage building, including a basement and ground floor.
- Preservation of heritage-listed architectural features, such as the original awning outriggers and tie rods.
- Structural upgrades to support modern commercial and retail use.
- Seamless integration of contemporary interiors while maintaining the building’s historical integrity.
- Collaborative delivery with H&E Architects and the client, Enormous Pty Ltd, ensuring compliance with heritage guidelines and building codes.
Crafting Excellence in Heritage Construction
The Pitt Street refurbishment required a meticulous approach to balance modern commercial needs with heritage preservation. As construction progressed, layers of history emerged—particularly the original awning structure, where key elements were incorporated into the new design, creating a historic time capsule for future generations.
To overcome the challenges of modernizing a 19th-century structure, our team developed innovative construction solutions, including:
- Designing structural reinforcements to enhance load-bearing capacity.
- Implementing internal alterations to accommodate open-plan commercial spaces.
- Façade restoration that blends heritage charm with modern architectural features.
Infinity Constructions worked closely with H&E Architects and heritage consultants to navigate the structural complexities and regulatory requirements. This collaboration ensured that the building’s historical character was protected while creating a functional, aesthetically refined commercial environment.
