Infinity Constructions Group is pleased to be at the forefront of shaping Surry Hills’ future, spearheading the construction of Canva’s new Global Headquarters on Kippax Street. This landmark adaptive reuse project, designed by the acclaimed Cox Architecture, is far more than a new office. It’s poised to become a global benchmark for innovative, sustainable, and people-centric workplace design, deeply reflecting Canva’s unique culture and its commitment to community.
Demolition Progressing: Paving the Way for Transformation
We’re excited to share the latest from the site as of May 2025: Demolition is in full swing at the new Canva HQ, and we are now down to Level 5 slab demo. This crucial phase is steadily advancing, laying the groundwork for the building’s remarkable evolution.
Canva Global Headquarters – A New Standard in Adaptive Reuse and Workplace Design
Cox Architecture’s design for Canva’s new global headquarters is a visionary undertaking, aiming to create far more than just an office. It’s envisioned as a “benchmark model in the re-use and rejuvenation” of an existing building – a vibrant campus meticulously planned to be “imbued with the good vibes of Canva” and to foster a “virtuous cycle of growth and culture.” Expected to open late 2026, the space will embody Canva’s “be a force for good” philosophy and unique spirit in several key ways.
The transformed multi-storey structure, with its additional 1.5 to 2 storeys, will be crowned by an expansive, landscaped rooftop terrace by Arcadia. This will serve as a dynamic hub for culture, connection, and celebration, offering Canva’s 1500+ employees, collaborators, and guests a unique space to gather. It may even feature an urban farm, bringing to life Cox Architecture’s insight of “food at the heart of the experience” by supplying in-house cafes.
Designed for Wellbeing and Hybrid Work
Internally, the site is designed to foster wellbeing and a modern work style. Comprehensive wellness facilities, including a gym, meditation studios, and child-friendly zones, will support Canva’s team and their hybrid work model. Former car parking will make way for people-centric end-of-trip facilities, encouraging active commutes. Throughout the building, various communal areas, cafes, and versatile event spaces will empower employees and promote collaboration.
Sustainability at the Core: All-Electric, Green Roof, and Agrivoltaics
Sustainability and environmental harmony are paramount, true to Canva’s values, “do more with less” approach. The all-electric building will be powered by 100% renewable energy, and a “green roof” will enhance biodiversity, reduce energy consumption, and potentially incorporate innovative agrivoltaics – the co-existence of solar panels and plants.
Finally, the design thoughtfully celebrates heritage and local identity. It incorporates First Nations principles in collaboration with Indigenous design consultancy Yerrabingin and will feature local art, including prominent murals. This will further embed the campus within the vibrant Surry Hills community, fostering connections with local non-profits and social enterprises through shared spaces and improvements to areas like Sophia Lane.
Looking Forward
The transformation of Kippax Street is well underway, and the progress energises the Infinity Constructions team. We look forward to sharing further updates as this exciting project unfolds, creating a truly iconic global headquarters for Canva in the heart of Sydney.
