What is NABERS?
NABERS (National Australian Built Environment Rating System) is Australia’s independent, government-backed system for rating the environmental performance of buildings and tenancies.
It provides a clear and reliable measure of energy efficiency, water usage, waste management, and indoor environment quality across the built environment.
How the NABERS Energy Rating Works
- 12-Month Data Collection: Ratings are based on actual, measured energy consumption over a continuous 12-month period.
- Star-Based Assessment: Buildings are rated on a scale from 1 to 6 stars, with higher ratings representing greater energy efficiency.
- Renewable Energy Indicator: This component measures the percentage of the building’s energy that comes from renewable sources, whether on-site or off-site.
- Peer Benchmarking: NABERS compares a building’s performance against others of similar size and use, with a sector-wide benchmark shown on the certificate.
- Independent Verification: All ratings are verified by accredited NABERS assessors to ensure data accuracy and consistency.
