Hunter St project is located on the corner Hunter Street and George Street in Sydney’s CBD. This project comprised the adaptive re-use of an existing heritage-listed building operating as a sports club into A grade, CBD office accommodation.
The project included a complete strip out of existing finishes, dilapidated heritage fabric, failing structure and some illegal works conducted by previous contractors. The brief was to restore the structure to its ‘former glory’ including new timber floors throughout; new heritage plaster works to all existing walls and reinstatement of period plaster features. Other features of this project included installing all new heritage replica windows and shop fronts and restore existing windows in salvageable condition.

The complexities with this heritage adaptation into offices were centred around the conservation management plan and building code compliance. The solution to issues such as fire rating, acoustic performance, structural code compliance and retrofitting services into the heritage fabric. Infinity Constructions collaborated with the consultant team and the client representatives to resolve these complications within the project budget and time frame.
Compliance with the Conservation Management Plan also presented a challenge. Specialist trades were engaged, and samples/prototypes were developed and approved as benchmarks for the project. Regular engagement with the heritage consultant to verify and check compliance with conservation was the key to ensuring a seamless transition to the completed project.
