Infinity Constructions has marked a major milestone in the delivery of Canva’s new Sydney Campus, celebrating the project’s highest structural point with a traditional Topping Out Ceremony at 8 Kippax Street, Surry Hills.
The milestone recognised the collaboration and dedication of all project partners involved in delivering one of Sydney’s most ambitious workplace developments. Guests included Canva representatives Tom McNamara and Chris Low, COX Architecture, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers and the Infinity project team.
Celebrating a Major Construction Milestone
Topping Out is a longstanding construction tradition dating back more than 1,000 years, the Topping Out Ceremony celebrates the completion of a building’s highest structural point while acknowledging the people who made it possible.
An Established Partnership with Canva
In his address, Alan Yazbek, Managing Director of Infinity Constructions and Project Director for the project, reflected on the partnership between Infinity and Canva, which began in 2018 with the refurbishment of 110 Kippax Street, Canva’s current Sydney office.
“Our relationship was built on trust, transparent collaboration and mutual respect, with a shared willingness to bring a vision to life,” said Alan. “We are sincerely grateful to Canva for continuing to place their trust in Infinity, and we are proud to be helping deliver this remarkable new headquarters.”
Alan also highlighted the project’s evolution, including the transformation of the existing structure and the addition of two new levels to create a workplace aligned with Canva’s culture and future aspirations.
Recognising the Project Team
Infinity Constructions Project Manager Lachlan Cordato also acknowledged the scale and complexity of the redevelopment and paid tribute to the team effort behind the milestone.
“This achievement belongs to everyone who has helped shape the project, from planning and design through to construction. It reflects the commitment, expertise and teamwork of all involved.”
He also recognised the extensive structural modifications, detailed planning and close stakeholder coordination required throughout the project, noting that strong collaboration has been central to its progress.
Representing Canva, Tom McNamara spoke about the positive working relationship with the Infinity team, highlighting the open communication and accessibility of both the Project Director and Project Manager throughout the project.
The ceremony also recognised the contribution of COX Architecture in shaping Canva’s future global headquarters, along with the consultants, subcontractors, suppliers and site teams whose expertise and commitment have been instrumental in reaching this milestone.
Looking Towards Completion in Mid-2027
While the Topping Out Ceremony marks a significant achievement, work continues on the façade, services, interiors and finishes as the project progresses towards completion in mid-2027.
“This is more than a headquarters. It is a workplace designed to inspire innovation, creativity and connection for generations to come,” said Cordato. “We look forward to continuing the journey together as we bring this remarkable project to completion.”
